Another awesome refurb from CPO

By dm

Comments about 28 Degree 3-1/2-in Industrial Framing Nailer System:

I've never used a framing nailer, but I have several upcoming projects around the house that allowed me to justify this purchase. The refurb I ordered was basically pristine (as is pretty much the case with all the many tools I've purchased refurbished from CPO). Required a $2 adapter from my local, orange home improvement center in order to attach to my incredibly inexpensive 6-gal air compressor. Manual and bump fire trigger were included.

While I have no basis for comparison, I thought this nailer was comfortable to use, nicely balanced, and the tip bit with tenacity into 2x4s I nailed together for some basement shelves.

I set my cheapo compressor to somewhere between 70-80 psi and got reliable, consistent performance with 3" Bostitch fasteners. No double fires or anything weird. This nailer is a joy to use. Definitely the most fun tool currently in my posession and quite a time saver. I'm a fan.

Comments about 28 Degree 3-1/2-in Industrial Framing Nailer System:

Bought this nailer to use finish the second half of my basement (the first half was done with a hammer). I wish I had bought this nailer before I did the first half, it would have made it so much easier and faster. Some other reviewers have mentioned a hard kickback, but I would have to disagree, and add that there is far less stress to your arm/wrist/hand than using a hammer. I went with a reconditioned one and saved a good bit of money, and the nailer looked like it had never been used. Overall this has been a great purchase that I wish I had made sooner.

Comments about 28 Degree 3-1/2-in Industrial Framing Nailer System:

Although I am serious DIY'er, I was reluctant to buy a frame nailer on the grounds that only a professional really needs one. However, I just finished using this nailer on some overhead boards, and the task would have been impossible without it. This nailer drives 3" glue-coated nails like they were finish nails. I even fired off a clip of 30 degree, 2" nails without a jam or misfire. Should have bought sooner.

        • Q:

What type of nails does it use? Clipped heads or round heads? My existing gun uses 28degree clipped heads. Will these nails work on this gun?

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

            This nailer uses a 28° wire collated stick nail in lengths of 2” to 3-1/2” (50 - 90mm) and shank diameters of .113” to .131” (2.8 - 3.3mm).

        • Q:

I don't understand the degree category. My former nailer is a 30 degree gun. Will my supply of 30 degree nails work in a 28 degree gun?

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

No, if you are using a 28 degree gun, you will need to use 28 degree nails.

        • Q:

What's difference b/w continuous and sequential fire capability? Which does this unit have?
Asked on 4/21/2013 by Dan the Boat guy from Cambridge, MD

          1 answer

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

What is a contact trigger? What is a sequential trigger?

Nail guns equipped with contact trip trigger mechanisms allow the tool to fire any time that both the trigger and the nose of the gun — the contact element — are depressed. The trigger can be held down to allow bump or bounce nailing.

Sequential triggers require the nose of the gun be depressed before the trigger is pulled. This mechanism helps prevent an inadvertent discharge of nails.

Contact and sequential triggers look identical. If you can “bump nail” by holding the trigger down and bouncing the nose against a nailing surface, you are operating a nail gun equipped with contact trigger.

Is there a recommended capacity of compressor for this item?

          1 answer

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

You will need a minimum of 6 gallons, but if you are nailing a lot of product quickly, you should consider something larger.

        New Vs. Reconditioned

Factory-Reconditioned products have been returned to the manufacturer and are restored to like-new operating condition; they go through a rigorous testing and inspection process. Plus, they offer a significant savings vs. new.

        • Reconditioned products may have minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches that do not affect item performance.
        • Reconditioned products may not come with all of the accessories or consumables the new version comes with (bits, sanding pads/papers, cases, etc.).
        • Both come with a manufacturer warranty and are covered by CPO’s Money Back Guarantee;
New is 30 days, Reconditioned is 60 days.
